Will the 2021 Honda Accord keep its manual transmission?
News is slowly starting to trickle into the Meridian Honda showroom about more 2021 Honda models. In the past few months, we’ve heard a bit about the 2021 Honda Odyssey and more than a little bit about the 2021 Honda Pilot. That still leaves some major holes in what we know about the rest of the 2021 Honda lineup. However, thanks to some great reporting by Motor Trend and Automobile magazines, we’re getting a peek at what the future of some Honda vehicles coming to dealerships like ours will make available. One of the questions we’ve been asking among ourselves at Meridian Honda is, ‘Will the 2021 Honda Accord keep its manual transmission?’ Both Alexander Stoklosa of Motor Trend magazine and Alex Kirstein of Automobile Magazine have reported that it will be deleted from the 2021 Accord lineup.

In Stoklosa’s story, dated July 17, Honda only sold one or two percent of Accord models with its available six-speed manual transmission – equaling only a few thousand units each year. Stoklosa goes on to surmise that the 2021 Accord will offer a continuously variable transmission on base models featuring a turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine.
The 10-speed automatic will be attached to the more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder power plant – also per the Motor Trend article. While a manual transmission-equipped Accord might not have be super popular, the Motor Trend article also included this quote from Honda:
“Manual transmissions will remain an important part of the Honda lineup, currently available in Civic sedan, hatchback, Si, and Type R. Enthusiast consumers have long reaped the rewards of this commitment and those buyers helped make Honda the retail No. 1 manual-transmission brand in America in 2019.” — Honda Statement, published on motortrend.com on July 17.
