Safety is a primary concern of every automaker operating around the world. Honda is taking this effort as seriously as any of them. That automaker has announced a new opt-in service that will not only encourage safer driving habits but could also lead to auto insurance discounts in more than 40 states*. So, what is Honda Driver Feedback? Owners of certain Honda vehicles with HondaLink® connected-vehicle applications will get a clear view of how their driving habits could be improved by providing objective analysis in five distinct areas. Using the Honda Driver Feedback system for just 90 days could lead to an insurance discount if they are using a participating provider. Let’s take a closer look at how this works.
Smooth Driving — Mashing on the accelerator and stomping on the brake pedal are indicators of unsafe driving behavior, which is a major cause of crashes. Smooth acceleration and a gentle touch on the brake pedal will give drivers a high score in this category.
Speed Responsibility — In order to get the best possible score in this category, drivers will need avoid speeds above 80 miles per hour. Excessive speeds or driving too fast for conditions is another major cause of accidents.
Consistent Driving — Giving yourself enough time to complete your commute is the key to the consistent driving category. Studies suggest that people who leave home and travel at the same time each day are less likely to get into a car accident.
Driving Time — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that there are four times as many fatal crashes at night than during the day. Avoiding early morning and late-night driving is how this score will be calculated.
Time Behind the Wheel — Excessive driver fatigue shows a strong correlation in indicating accidents. Sometimes long trips are unavoidable but taking breaks to get some rest will help keep this score as high as it can be.
Which Honda vehicles offer Driver Feedback?
Not every Honda vehicle will have the necessary technology to utilize the Driver Feedback capability. You will need to have one of the following vehicles to use it:
2018-present Honda Accord Touring
2018-present Honda Odyssey Touring or Elite
2019-present Honda Insight Touring
2019-present Honda Passport Touring or Elite
2019-present Honda Pilot Touring, Elite or Black Edition
