What does Honda Sport Mode do?
Just because someone can’t justify owning a sports car, doesn’t mean they don’t want that kind of dynamic and engaging driving experience. Automakers, like Honda, are answering the call from customers by leveraging the latest in available technology. So, what does Honda Sport Mode do? It’s a feature available on an increasing number of Honda models found at dealerships like Meridian Honda and a simple press of the button can really change a properly-equipped vehicle’s characteristics. For our purposes today, we are going to use the 2018 Honda Accord as our example to explain this feature. If you want to see it in action, make an appointment with a Meridian Honda product expert today.

In a 2018 Honda Accord, you’ll know if the vehicle is equipped with Sport Mode because there will be an appropriately-labeled button located to the rear of the gear-shifter. A driver will simply need to push it to get the most out of their car.
When the Honda Sport Mode is paired with the Accord’s automatic transmission, it will let the engine run a little faster, approaching the redline on the tachometer. However, it will shift to a higher gear before potentially expensive damage occurs. In addition to pushing the car closer to its upper limits in terms of performance, a driver may notice a change in handling when they engage sport mode. An automatic setting in the mode will stiffen the suspension which will give a feeling similar to that found in true sports cars. If someone lives in an area with well-paved and winding roads, this is where you’ll want to activate that ‘Sport’ button.
It’s important to point out that using sport mode on almost any vehicle will lead to a slight drop in fuel economy. This tracks logically since the engine will be working a little harder than normal.

Once a driver has finished using Honda Sport Mode, they can simply press the button again to deactivate it. The vehicle’s center gauge cluster will have a few different visual cues to let drivers know the car’s current configuration.
