The Honda Sensing® suites of active safety systems can be found on a continually growing number of the automaker’s new vehicles available at dealership’s like Meridian Honda. Like most systems under the Honda Sensing® umbrella, Road Departure Mitigation employs an array of sensors that help the vehicle determine its position on the road as well as its position in relation to other vehicles on the road.
Road Departure Mitigation differs from the similar-sounding Lane Departure Warning in one key fashion. The former can actually help automatically steer the vehicle if a driver doesn’t respond to increasingly intense warnings and alerts.

Road Departure Mitigation vs. Lane Keeping Assist
At first blush, these two systems seem to do the same thing. However, Lane Keeping Assist is geared to ensure a properly equipped vehicle remains centered in a detected lane of travel. Both systems will provide visual, audio and tactile warnings that the driver needs to take corrective action before the system will make steering changes on its own.
