Obviously, driver and passenger safety is a top priority for Honda. The automaker has helped this effort by expanding its Honda Sensing® suite of active safety systems to more modelswith each passing model year. One of the more interesting elements of the Honda Sensing® will actually take a semi-active role in centering a properly equipped Honda vehicle in the center of a marked lane. So, how does Honda Lane Keeping Assist System work? We’ll go into more detail below, but the elevator pitch is that it employs an array of cameras to determine the vehicle’s position on the road. A few Meridian Honda product experts got together to examine this important and innovative safety system, so you understand its benefits and limitations.
Driving on a long straight stretch of highway comes with a unique set of challenges, like drivers drifting out of their lane of travel. The cameras placed in the vehicle will recognize the lines painted on the highway and it will keep the vehicle in the middle. If the system detects lane drift, the driver will receive a series of alerts, both tactile and visual, to prompt the driver to make small corrections.
It is important to note that if you are driving on an unmarked road, the system will not engage.
How do I turn on Honda LKAS?
When you’re driving on a properly marked roadway, the Honda Lane Keeping Assist can be activated by pressing the LKAS button on the steering wheel. As the system engages, be sure to pay attention to the digital screen located behind the steering wheel. There will a very clear change in the display’s symbology when LKAS goes live. Additionally, LKAS requires that the driver retains active control of the vehicle and keep their hands on the steering wheel.
