Which kinds of sunshades work the best?
The secret to a particular sunshade’s effectiveness lies in the materials it’s made from. Sunshades generally fall into two categories, reflective and non-reflective. As the names imply, the two types work by absorbing sunlight and blocking it from the vehicle’s interior (non-reflective) or by reflecting the rays of the sun back out using a mirrored or otherwise shiny coating.
It is important to install the sunshade properly to make sure that it works as intended. In general, the reflective or shiny surface should face outward and non-reflective models should have the black side facing inside the vehicle, toward the seats.
Why should I use a sunshade?
Most people use an automotive sunshade to keep the sun from making interior surfaces too hot to touch, like the steering wheel or seatbelt buckles. However, there are a lot of benefits of keeping the sun out of a vehicle’s interior, beyond simply keeping the interior comfortable. Constant exposure to sunlight can destroy a dashboard, causing bleaching and cracking. The same goes for the vehicle’s upholstery.
