Can the outlet in the 2020 Honda Ridgeline support power tools?
The 2020 Honda Ridgeline has been designed to provide confident and easy handling, similar to that of one of the automaker’s crossover SUVs combined with the hauling and towing capability of a midsize pickup truck. Additionally, the 2020 Ridgeline is also outfitted with several convenience features to help owners complete jobs or provide a few additional creature comforts while on the move. It’s fairly common for new Meridian Honda customers to ask, ‘Can the outlet in the 2020 Honda Ridgeline support power tools?’ For people who own models that have this feature (RTL-E and Black Edition), the answer is a resounding, yes. Let’s take a look at a few other things you might need to know about the 150-/400-watt truck-bed power outlet.

How does the Honda Ridgeline power outlet work?
Owners of the 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and Black Edition will have two modes to use the available power outlet, 150- and 400-watt options. The lower 150-watt setting can be used when the ignition is set in accessory mode. This is good for low power needs, like recharging batteries. Owners can use the higher output mode for more power-intensive tools by starting the engine. Some tools that might require the 400-watt mode include a television, blender or a slow cooker.
Using the power outlet
The power outlet on the 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E or Black
Edition doesn’t always have power running to it. A user will have to turn the
outlet on by pressing the button in the driver’s cockpit. It is located to the
left of the steering on the lower half of the panel. When the light is amber,
the 400-watt mode is active. A green indicator light means that the 150-watt
mode is running.
A few other things you should know
Honda has built-in a few safety features to make sure that accidental damage doesn’t occur when people are using the bed-mounted power outlet in the 2020 Ridgeline. There are a few situations where the protection circuit might be activated to cut off the power supply if:
- The engine is started when the power outlet is activated
- An appliance or tool draws more power than the
system can handle
- A combination of things is drawing more power
than the max wattage capacity
